Token launches are built on hype and not fundamentals

Most projects are incentivized to create short-term attention instead of long-term sustainability.

The result?

Launchpads and VCs push inflated narratives. Early whales cash out. Builders disappear. And the community is left holding the bag.

“That's how you get people involved but hype lasts until it doesn't, right?”

The numbers are worse than you think

According to Messari:

72% of tokens launched since 2021 have lost 90%+ of their value.
Only 8% of tokenized projects are still active a year post-launch.

This isn’t just a market cycle. It’s a structural issue — where tokenomics, fundraising, and community building are disconnected.

Retail Investors Are Still Exit Liquidity

The typical lifecycle of a token launch:

Early VCs buy in at deep discounts.
Launchpads inflate valuations and hype.
Presale investors dump 40–60% of supply within 2 weeks of launch.
Retail buys in last — and gets wrecked.

Meanwhile, launchpads walk away with 5–20% of fees plus token allocations, with little ongoing support for the project.

Where is this headed?

Garden is an extension of the Taikai hackathon platform. It’s designed to help early-stage projects mature before they launch, and reward real builders and users.

Here’s how it works:

Project Graduation Model
Teams develop projects in public, then apply for "graduation" before launching their token.

AI + Human Review
Garden uses AI to flag fake teams or copy-paste projects — followed by human committee review.
