🛠️ Deep-dive: What is Nuffle Labs doing?
Initially, Near’s capabilities with DA were promising due to its cost-effective nature and scalability. However, as the team explored it further, they found that DA, while essential for blockchain performance and security, is difficult to monetize.
DA lacks a strong business model because it is often seen as a "free" or very low-cost utility within ecosystems, making it challenging to capture value from it as a revenue-generating service.
This reality led to the decision that while DA would remain a part of their technical stack, the company would not make it the core revenue focus.
Instead, they’re incorporating DA into other business-oriented services, such as the fast finality layer and state validation features.

Modular and specialized solutions
Altan thinks that it is important to be specialized in modularity - rather than building generalized, broad-use solutions, Nuffle Labs is focusing on modular services that cater to specific blockchain needs - especially for Layer 2s.
For instance, they are not just providing general data availability but also offering the ability to store and transfer specific data across multiple chains in ways that are cheaper and more efficient.
The specialization strategy allows Nuffle to focus on niche problems and deliver precise solutions, creating a stronger value proposition. Altan argues that this focus on modularity is not only more efficient but also aligns better with customer demand, especially as users increasingly seek tailored, chain-specific functionalities.
The future of chain abstraction
Chain abstraction is a growing trend that aims to simplify the end-user experience by allowing seamless interaction across multiple blockchains without needing to switch between networks manually. Nuffle’s fast finality layer (NFFL) supports this vision by allowing users to transfer assets and interact across different chains in just a few seconds.
For example, users could execute transactions across Layer 2 solutions quickly and efficiently, without needing to understand the specifics of each chain’s security or governance model. Near protocol was one of the early pioneers of this concept, aiming to create an experience where users interact with a singular front-end interface that abstracts away the underlying complexity of blockchain networks.
Through chain abstraction, Nuffle Labs aims to create a “verifiable cloud,” where users can trust that their transactions will be processed securely and seamlessly, regardless of the underlying chain.
Stake-from-anywhere model
One of Nuffle Protocol's innovative concepts is its "stake-from-anywhere" model, which allows users to keep their assets on their native chains while still participating in decentralized validation processes across other chains.
For example, a user could stake assets from Layer 2 chains such as Optimism or Arbitrum without needing to bridge those assets to another network.
This flexibility reduces the need for users to bridge their assets, which often involves risks and costs, enhancing both user experience and security. For Nuffle Labs, this model also serves as a revenue generator by providing staking options for Layer 2 token launches with fee-based incentives.
Redundancy in DA models
Redundancy in DA is a hot topic, and companies like Particle Network are exploring ways to create more reliable DA solutions by distributing data across multiple DA layers.
For example, if one DA layer experiences downtime or an attack, other DA layers can still provide the necessary data, ensuring continuity and security. Altan explains that redundancy in DA operates similarly to replication in cloud computing, where data is stored in multiple locations to prevent a single point of failure.
Nuffle Labs is incorporating redundancy by allowing its fast finality layer to integrate with multiple DA providers, including Near DA, Eigen DA, and Avail. By doing so, Nuffle aims to create a robust system that doesn’t rely solely on one provider and can offer higher availability and security assurances to users and applications.
