🧞 Struggling to get funds in the bear market? Community Insights on how Kryptomon raised $10 million in the environment of high inflation.

Kryptomon is an NFT play-to-earn blockchain game that combines Pokémon, Tamagotchi, and CryptoKitties. Within less than a year of launch, they raised $10M in a Series A round — and this came with a very turbulent market.
What approach did Kryptomon use to raise funds during the bear market?
Tomer Warschauer Nuni, their CMO, shared a few secrets with us:
1️⃣ Clear & comprehensible positioning
In order not to confuse or intimidate investors with unknown and new-fashioned terminology, Kryptomon positioned itself as a “Web3 gaming company” (instead of using terms like “blockchain game”, “crypto game”, “NFT-based game”, etc.).
So once they approached the door, their investors could understand what Kryptomon was doing in general — a game in the new and trendy Web3 space.
2️⃣ Simple terminology
While pitching to investors, Kryptomon didn’t go deep into complex tokenomics and used clear and understandable terms. Words like “tokenomy” or “minting” were there just to prove that the company knew what it was doing.
We’ve found the pitch deck that Kryptomon used to raise $10M in a round led by NFX. Here are main tips you can borrow from it:
— Cover Slide
One of the most important duties of any pitch deck is to capture attention right from the start. The first slide of the Kryptomon pitch deck is designed in the image of the startup and sets the tone for the rest of the presentation. It emphasizes the company’s branding by clearly displaying a logo and tagline, demonstrating the audience what they’ve prepared to share.
— Traction Slide
Kryptomon has a strong community, as well as game traction. Because the founders recognize its value, we can see several traction slides throughout the Kryptomon pitch deck. Each of them display traction figures in an easy-to-understand manner, using charts and grids of key metrics.
— Team Slide
The team slide is frequently presented as an afterthought, though it’s a crucial thing for any presentation. Kryptomon has positioned its staff slide at the beginning of the pitch deck, however it lacks one significant element: previous experience. Your team slides need to be not just faces and names, they have to impress investors with the prior track record of the management group.

3️⃣ Equity funding
As Tomer says, the Kryptomon management team had a background experience of raising funds in the Web2 industry. This time, their main investors weren’t Web3-oriented, and the team had to make a clear offer that they would understand.
This is why Kryptomon opted for equity funding, which would have convinced investors that the company is viable and sustainable and has the potential to sell out.
